Physiotherapy is a medical discipline that uses scientifically proven methods to restore or enhance one's physical well-being. Physical well-being in this context includes the body's strength, overall mobility and functionality. A physiotherapist is a medical professional that is an expert in physiotherapy. Physiotherapists are trained in medical schools, and like other medical fields, they require certification to practice in most parts of the world.

A Chartered physio is an accredited member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (MISCP). The Society of Chartered Physiotherapists is a professional body whose goal is to maintain high standards in the field of physiotherapy. Members must have a physiotherapy degree from an accredited university and must have shown that they can uphold the high standards set by the organization.

The time physiotherapy takes to work depends on the answer to two questions.

● Why do you need physiotherapy?
● What physiotherapy techniques are included in your treatment plan?

For example, a sports massage takes minutes to be effective, which is why it can be performed just before, or even during a competitive event. On the other hand, ACL rehabilitation can take more than 8 weeks and numerous individual therapies.

If you are a professional athlete, or someone who is consistently engaged in physically exerting activities, then you should see a physiotherapist regularly – at least once every month. This is because physiotherapy offers the best protection against injuries. Everybody should book an appointment with a physiotherapist as soon as they are in any form of physical discomfort/pain or after an injury.

Yes it does. Neck pain is one of the most common complaints physiotherapists deal with. Simple mistakes such as sleeping posture usually cause it. There are a number of therapies that can cure neck pain on a long-term basis.

This usually depends on your physiotherapy needs. On average, you should expect a single appointment or session to last 45 minutes. This time usually includes a consultative 1-on-1 session and some form of therapy.

The simple answer is: Yes, physiotherapy works. It is an important part of the medical field, and all registered practitioners must have a physiotherapy degree or an equivalent academic qualification. All techniques are based on modern science and have been proven to be effective.

Physiotherapists help in the treatment and management of a number of physical conditions. These include (but are not limited to): back pain, post operation rehabilitation, knee/hip injuries, arthritis and other forms of joint pain, sports injuries, muscle pain and neck pain.

Physiotherapy is one of the best solutions for back pain. Physiotherapists will give you advice on changes to make regarding your posture or lifestyle to reduce back pain. There are also numerous exercises that can be recommended to you in addition to therapies such as massages.

Yes, as of 2019, you can claim tax back on the cost of physiotherapy in Ireland. This is applied at the standard rate of 20% that applies to other medical procedures.
